Tight security at Dhaka airport ahead of Tarique’s homecoming

Strict security measures have been put in place at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport ahead of Tarique Rahman's return.

According to Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the flight is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 11:45am via Sylhet.

Multiple layers of security have been set up at the main gate of the airport's VVIP terminal, with members of the army, BGB, air force, police and Rab deployed.

Rab dog squads are conducting searches, and a special army team has also been stationed at the airport. At the same time, the personal security team of the BNP chairperson and acting chairman, known as the CSF, is on duty.

These measures have been in place since early this morning, with heightened security visible across the airport area. Outside the airport, checkpoints have been set up at several points, including Banani, where vehicles are being searched.

BNP Media Cell Convener Maudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel told reporters that the July 36 Expressway has already turned into a sea of people. Airport formalities will be very brief, with only members of the BNP standing committee scheduled to welcome him with flowers.

After that, Tarique will head to Evercare Hospital to visit his ailing mother. On the way, he will give a short speech at a public gathering on the 36 July Expressway. Pavel said he believes Tarique Rahman will thank the people of the country and call on them to remain united.

BNP Health Affairs Secretary Rafiqul Islam said a sufficient number of law enforcement personnel have been deployed.
