Taking the stairs may do this for your health, researchers say
Choosing the stairs over the elevator may do more than add a little exercise to your day, according to recent analysis.
New research suggests regular stair climbing is associated with a substantially lower risk of cardiovascular death and death from any cause.
People who regularly climbed stairs had a 39% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and a 24% lower risk of dying from any cause compared with those who climbed stairs less often, according to researchers from the University of East Anglia and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
Stair climbing was also associated with lower risks of major cardiovascular conditions, including heart attack, stroke and heart failure.
